Animal in Attic Noises by Time of Day

Use morning, daytime, dusk, and nighttime noise patterns to describe the likely wildlife problem when requesting removal help.

Noise timing will not identify an animal perfectly, but it gives the provider a useful starting point for dispatch, inspection, and access planning.

Morning and daytime scratching

Fast scratching or running during daylight often points toward squirrels. Mention roofline gaps, chewed fascia, soffit openings, and whether the sound is above one room or moving across the attic.

Heavy nighttime movement

Loud thumps, rolling sounds, or repeated movement after dark often point toward raccoons or opossums. Tell the provider whether the sound is near a chimney, attic hatch, crawl space, or wall void.

Dusk exit activity

Bats may be quiet inside but visible outside as they exit near dusk. Look from the ground for small openings, staining, or droppings below a gap.

Fluttering or chirping

Birds in vents, soffits, or chimneys can sound like fluttering, chirping, or scratching. If a dryer or bathroom vent is involved, avoid running the fan until a provider checks it.
